You build a habit through repetition of behavior. Engage in behavior change that you can sustain. The change should be inconvenient enough to ensure that you are outside your comfort zone. Habit, like growth, happens outside that zone. But, the change should be manageable enough for you to sustain without feeling like a victim. A diet that evokes episodes of self-pity because you are drastically depriving yourself of food you crave for, will not work.
